Lemster Aken
During the last couple of years, an increasing number of Lemsteraken [barges] that meet the requirements of the “standard class” have been built on
the IJsselmeer. And even now there are still new barges being made. These barges differ from the well-known barge-yachts with a deckhouse (such as
Queen Beatrix’ “De Groene Draeck” that has Muiden as her homeport as well). De difference can be found in the traditional fishermen’s seating area:
since there is no deckhouse, and only a spacious front, a large seating area remains from which you can sail the entire ship. The fact that you remain
on the afterdeck (where the seating area is located) during the trips makes the sailing experience very different from the experience you will have
on board of a clipper or tjalk (on both of which you will be on deck). You are much closer to the water, such as on board of a traditional, wooden
smack. These barges, however, are much faster than the smacks and are equipped with all modern racing techniques.
Because they all belong to one standard class, they are completely equal to one another and they can race each other without rating. These ships are thus very suitable for a crew from 12 to 16 persons per ship. Small groups, so you can actually sail the ship very actively. We would like to use our experience in competitive yachting with clippers and tjalks to offer you competitive racing matches with these barges. You can rent the ships individually or in a match. We would be very pleased to compose a tailor-made quotation for you. |
